I had a great time chatting with Rebecca about my work at St John's College, and digitization more generally! If you'd like to learn more about the St John's Digitization Project, and the process of digitization, give this a listen! Thank you for having me on again, Rebecca 😊

I love manuscripts within manuscripts! I'm currently working with SJC MS 82, a beautiful 15th century book of hours, and wanted to share this image of a manuscript within a manuscript! SJC MS 82 will be available to view on Digital Bodleian soon.

Never trust that anything that’s digitised or available online will be available forever. Digitisation is not preservation, and tech companies aren’t archivists or librarians. The presence of hard copy in a physical collection is the only guarantee of long-term survival

The calendar in SJC MS 82 includes several additions, such as these entries marking the deaths of Elizabeth of York on 11 February 1502, and Prince Arthur on 2 April 1502. The whole manuscript will be available to view on Digital Bodleian soon.

Witch trials in Europe in the 16th and 17th centuries were especially intense, but belief in witches had already existed for centuries around the world. In the second of our special witchcraft series Suzannah Lipscomb finds out more from Prof. Ronald Hutton: eu1.hubs.ly/H0dxCTX0

So proud of Dr Eleanor Baker for the launch of her new book "Book Curses" from Bodleian Publishing 📖 A fascinating look at how book owners have protected their books with curses over the centuries. Congratulations, Ellie! 🥳

I'm currently photography SJC MS 374, the Benefactor's Book of St John's College Library, which records books donated to the college in the 17th and 18th centuries. Here is the entry for William Paddy, a former student of the college who donated a large number of books (f. 15r)
