I finally watched the entire Zelensky-Trump interview. It started with at least 5 minutes of Zelensky thanking Trump. It seemed to be going well until, out of the blue, Vance started attacking Zelensky... Why?

After 12+ hours of raging fire, the bamboo scaffolding still stands. It's corner-cutting; they didn't use the required flame-retardant material fabric. It has nothing to do with the scaffolding. It is a world-renowned craft, known for being robust and highly efficient.

I want to add as a HongKonger: 1. Mourning period isn’t a thing in HK, esp when MAMA is a Korean event not a local one. We don’t care if it takes place. 2. It’s a 6 hrs walk from Tai Po to the Kai Tak venue Bamboo scaffolding doesn’t fuel fires, but incompetent authorities do.

正しい情報を。 香港には、竹でできた足場や棚を100年以上使っているのが、竹の良さをよくわかっているから。 今回の火災の原因、竹ではありません。 今回の火災の原因、竹ではありません。 今回の火災の原因、竹ではありません。

I don’t quite understand where does this “bamboo scaffolding led to the fire” come from. The bamboos scaffolding after the fire is still mainly intact. It’s the netting that’s flammable, not the bamboo scaffolding. It started with the netting, as multiple videos show.

Note to western journalists: don’t suck up PRC propaganda. Bamboo scaffolding is widely regarded as safe - a craft in Hong Kong of which they’re rightly proud. Early indications are that the netting was the cause of this tragedy.

(1/3) Regarding the Hong Kong fire: CNN quoted PolyU’s Prof. Huang saying bamboo is flammable, implying the bamboo scaffold was the main driver. But multiple clips show the netting and wrap igniting, not the scaffold; most bamboo poles remained intact.

(3/3) Hong Kong has used bamboo scaffolding for decades because it’s lightweight, highly flexible in strong winds, easy to assemble on irregular building façades, and extremely cost-effective. The scaffold itself wasn’t the issue here. The netting material was.

The “bamboo scaffolding caused the fire” narrative is not only factually wrong, it reflects a prejudice against in-situ craft and HK's own construction traditions. The fire started with the netting. The bamboo is still intact. We deserve better reporting. BBC News (World)

(1/11) I oppose any hasty government move to abandon bamboo scaffolding, a proven, resilient, and cost-effective engineering system that has served Hong Kong’s high-rise and complex urban environment for decades. #HongKongFire And here is why:
