I've led three academic job searches this year. This thread is absolutely not one of unrequited, patronising advice. Just a few thoughts. /1

I'll only give one piece of unrequited advice: if you need reasonable adjustments for an interview - ask for them. The response you get might tell you everything you need to know about your future employer. /6

So Huw Edwards gets a suspended sentence for buying and making pornographic images of children, while peaceful environmental defenders seeking to prevent social catastrophe get 3, 4 and 5 years. Some justice, this.

‘We VCs are here to show solidarity with Keir Starmer. Like him, we understand that a massive salary needs to come with free accommodation and the little extras that compensate for having to make “difficult decisions”.’

This is an absolutely devastating resignation letter. It is absolutely correct - it’s a searing, damning indictment of the soulless, toxic Starmer project. It is, however, unfortunate that these points aren’t being made by someone else.

I had to lie on the floor to do my English A level. I was eventually diagnosed with endometriosis - a condition where my internal organs bleed every month. The only ‘proof’ is them cutting you open and I had to wait 20 years for the NHS to do this.

This is all too real and all too common - students, it will absolutely be affecting your lecturing team, no matter what university you attend - and senior management teams have very little interest in addressing it.

The key lesson of the Trump victory for us is that Labour has to deliver the significant improvement in quality of life that people can feel or we face the rise of right wing populism that has swept America. Half measures won’t be enough.
