These cold mornings are bringing some very hungry garden visitors. Around 30 Starlings are in the area. They appear suddenly and become a blur of movement as they empty their feeder in no time at all.

Today's garden visitor was helpfully removing the aphids from Mrs S's roses. (First Chiffchaff seen in our little garden)

Two of the lavender bushes in our little Norfolk garden have a stronger purple colour than the others. They're getting a lot of attention from bees - and butterflies like this Painted Lady. #BigButterflyCount #SaveButterflies

Looking back at the moths that visited our garden in July, I reckon our Moth of the Month might be this colourful Canary-shouldered Thorn - or maybe it's the more subtle Pebble Hook-tip. #mothmonday #mothsmatter #moths

While getting our morning tea, the sharp-eyed Mrs S spotted a Ring Ouzel on the fence at the end of the garden here in Snettisham. I'm not sure I've ever got out of bed so quickly. In around 20 secs it was gone. Flew off towards the Wild Ken Hill woods. #RingOuzel #birding

This week's garden visitor arrived just before the rains came. He sized up the feeder positions and angles, then went on his way. We expect he'll be back sometime - when the Greenfinches are feeding. #sparrowhawk

On this very cold morning there were a lot of birds feeding in our Norfolk garden. Then this Sparrowhawk arrived, and all the birds departed - even the gulls. Two hours elapsed before hunger overcame caution and the birds began to return.
