Teachers asked me for a picture of Tier 1 learning.
This was the result.

Something allowing for teacher autonomy & creativity, but also providing years worth of growth impact built into it to make learning happen & close the gaps.

Eventually turned it into a book.

Another superb thread on curriculum. The curriculum is a living, breathing, never ending process. We don’t have to start with all our ducks in a row.

Five: The curriculum is a never-ending story. Lots of colleagues are saying that they are not as far ahead as they would like to be on their curriculum journey.

That will always be the case: there will always be something that we want to refine, ditch, add depth.

We need to enjoy the fact that curriculum is never-ending. What we are offering right now is probably good enough and to accept the fact that it will take time for it to get better.

As Andrew Percival says

‘We need to create a curriculum culture in schools’ which means we relax into the idea that curriculum work is a living, breathing process.’

Concepts as connections over time:

The reason that the concepts and big ideas in the subjects are helpful is that they are like ‘holding baskets’ for a lot of information.

They are like the boulders across the curriculum that gather more moss over time.

His answer - DON'T!

Get ALL students to a level of mastery... decide 20% that is 'desirable' but test on the 80% that is necessary for progression... build in contingency to lessons and series' of lessons.
