Teaching players to think about what they could do better when they don’t have the ball is tough, bcos bad habits are developed over years and they’re hard to change, not impossible, but it takes time and belief by the players. So they need to know why changing will help them.

The easier you can make it for players to have simple tasks to do the more effective you will be as a coach. The brain handles 2 pieces of information brilliantly, so use that knowledge. Task players to do ‘that’ and if it’s not on, do ‘this’ instead. Do this or that , KISS

If you are disciplined in the way you communicate with players, 2 things to think about, you steadily build players’ knowledge, understanding and performance. It is tough to do as a coach because you want to help players but giving too much information, slows decision making.🙈

Yep, we were way ahead of them all. 😉⚽️🙇‍♂️🙏🎯 From the Scottish FA's, Review of Youth Development in Men's Football Report: Trends in Success in Elite Player Development The ‘Golden Years’ for Early Engagement (0-5) Players Studied: Messi, Ronaldo, Mbappe, Neymar Jr.,

I just had an awful experience by watching the 2nd half of Birmingham v Derby County. It was so poor I promised myself I will not do that again.

To say it’s an attack v defense is generous. It would be more meaningful if there were goals at each end to provide some game context to the players.

Analysis of youth development systems across Europe revealed – unsurprisingly - that most top talent (players valued over £12m) progressed through the nation’s main academies at some point. However, the final column in the table highlights that most of these players did not

To all the people who believe that you have to play football as the number one sport in your life to ‘make it’, Gabriel Batistuta told me that Basketball was his favorite sport and he played football professionally at 17 yo age because he needed money to go to University.

If referees don’t punish blatant fouls with yellow cards more often the game will not be worth watching and the fouls will increase. Blatant fouling is happening already, the question is how bad does it have to get before something is done about it?

I’m watching the program on Channel 9 about the AIS when it focused on giving athletes the opportunity to excel. The man who deserves all the credit for making it happen was Bob Ellicott, the Federal Minister for Sport in 1980.

How sad is it for the current and next generations that they don’t have an AIS to aim for? Mediocrity is the new standard of high performance.

Can you name 5 , not 10, Aussie players who play every week in the EPL, Italy, France, Germany or Spain? I rest my case.

The AIS was part of the system not the system. Clubs will always play a major role as they did in the 80’ and 90’s but none of them could replicate what the AIS had to offer, which was massive. It was the icing on the cake. The State Institutes provided another layer below that.

Programs that provide another level of expertise and opportunity are always relevant. In France they have increased the number of their centers of excellence not disbanded them since they started with 6 in the late 80’s
