The idea that online sports betting would be anything other than a total disaster is one of those beliefs—like decriminalizing heroin or believing legalized marijuana wouldn’t lead to increased traffic fatalities—that only extremely stupid or extremely smart people could believe.

We can thread the needle: a college education has become a rubber stamp, college isn’t right for everyone, and we should have a fair economy where you can make a dignified wage without a degree. But also a college education should be seen as a positive good, not vulgar job prep.
