At Center for American Progress. Former Rep Beto O’Rourke on Texas: “The President is growing increasingly unpopular.” He cannot retain his narrow majority in the House so he is asking for districts to be redrawn mid-decade.

Lawyer Norm Eisen on Donald Trump: “He said he wants to be a dictator on day one and he has never abandoned that ambition… We’ve got to fight in the court of public opinion and we’ve got to fight in the court of law.”

Eisen on redistricting: "I've seen some modelling of what the Texas legislature will have to do. It looks like a jigsaw puzzle cut be someone who took LSD."

O'Rourke: "Republicans care about power more than they care about anything else... Democrats care more about being right than about power and we have to change that. We have to be ruthlessly focused on winning power."

O'Rourke: "In Texas we don't really have a democracy and, I would argue, we don't really have one in America at large."

Eisen: "The playing field of our democracy is tilted. It's very sharply tilted in Texas... But if we work extra hard, we can still run up that playing field together. It's not faith; it's evidence-based hope that leads me to say we're still a democracy."

O'Rourke on redistricting: "If Gavin Newsom gets out there and redraws California, we dispense with the handwringing and just have his back on that."

Eisen: "Fight every moment, every inch of your being... Use the power you do have to stand up to this dictatorial regime!"

O'Rourke: "Look at how Trump uses power: it is awe-inspiring. He is using it to evil ends. Imagine, keeping with the constitution and rule of law, a Democrat in that White House with a Democratic majority in the House and Senate."
