Hey search committees, requiring letters of recommendation prior to an interview is wasteful. The competitive job market means applying to 30+ jobs. It’s not fair to my LORs, especially if you aren’t serious about hiring me. Continued in comments

The single greatest misunderstanding about science by the public is that scientists solve problems; in reality, scientists are primarily concerned with creating them.

I am appalled by Hebrew University 's decision to slash salaries of its T.A.s by hundreds of dollars (without reducing workload). The lack of warning (or negotiation) adds insult to injury. This damages education, research, and mental health. I'll explain how. 1/5

🦠 What I wish I'd known in year 1 about keeping track of samples in the lab: A thread about what has actually worked for me 🧵 (works for phages, bacteria, plasmids, any pesky shape-shifting biological entities!)

🔥New Night Science paper!! Discovery happens when your initial plans fall apart but it requires you to have a particular mindset: it's not extraverted, orderly, neurotic or agreeable that's the most important – discovery requires an OPENNESS to new ideas and unexpected insights.

Narcissistic leaders are more appealing to young people with low self-esteem. When we’re insecure, we often gravitate to big egos to fill the void. Supporting them makes us feel special—and makes them feel less threatened. It's time to stop mistaking confidence for competence.

#PostDoc Thinking about which impactful directions would be exciting to go next, I feel the challenge of reaching out to PIs, to discuss science first. Emails without a prior connection feel clumsy and often do not work. It would be nice to have a platform for this...

Why not have more of this? I don't see the reason to calcify press. Press should be at the service of its content not vice versa...

I am surprised AI is not mentioned in this article, but maybe it's in the making.. I recently answered to a Springer Nature survey on the use of AI in reviewing... What this article hints to though is that the review system we have been using is quite outdated.
