Absolutely huge that the Illini got the 3 seed. Makes the path to the second weekend so much better. 3 seeds win over 85% of the time. If BYU advances you get a team that really struggled away from home.

Morehead played great and is still down 1. Rotate Rogers and GL every few min and pick up PG full ct. Pressure like crazy. Make it a quicker game. Play Dain at the 5. They are doubling off the 5 so Morehead will have to rotate a small in there off the double. Win the 1st 5 min.

Illini advance. TSJ and Dain show up in the box score with 20+ pts each. But it is the pressure they put on the opponent. They are so strong. Attack the rim, draw fouls and create tough matchups. Great combo moving forward through the tournament.

Illini did what you need to do against a team like Duquesne. End it early so the Dukes know they can’t win. Tonight they looked like a team that finished 6th in the A-10. Illini shot the lights out, were aggressive in transition and defended at a high level. Great execution.

TSJ is on another level. I dont remember a player averaging over 25 ppg for over a month and not having to run a play for him. It’s all transition, one on one drives, and 3’s. He will be the talk of the tournament next week. Finally will get the national recognition.

Illini to the Elite 8. Defense stepped up tonight. Illini were the more physical team. Iowa State didn’t get any easy buckets. TSJ was the best player on the floor again. And TSJ will be the best player on the floor Saturday. UCONN doesn’t have a good answer for him.

UCONN fans are getting nervous. Turning to analytics. If the game was all about analytics the Illini would not have dropped 72 on the best defense in the country. And the Illini left 14 points at the foul line just to keep it interesting.

The Illini came out flat in the second half and UCONN went on a run that I have never seen before. Lots of positives to take away from the season but this one hurts. That is a rough way to go out.

In the NIL and transfer portal era, Matt Painter and Purdue Men's Basketball got to the Final Four doing it the Purdue way. Program players and player development. I know Jones was a big piece to the puzzle but the rest of the roster is made up of Purdue guys.

Braden Smith is struggling with the pressure. He is much less effective when he is going left. Needs to be more aggressive in 2nd half. Can they get the offense going to the right? Good balance from the rest of the Boilers.

The best team doesn’t always win in the NCAA because of the one and done format. It only takes one bad game to go home. UCONN was the best team all year long and they never came close to a bad game in the tournament. Impressive run.
