As we talk about “the Arab and Muslim vote,” it’s a good time to remember that most Arab Americans are not Muslim and most Muslim Americans are not Arab. A lot of poor analysis could be prevented if people knew these basic two facts.

I wrote a book on how John Kerry blew the 2004 election by catering to the right, ignoring the antiwar vote, and outhawking Bush. Twenty years later, Kamala Harris is following the same losing playbook.

NEW: I spent months tracking every single dollar AIPAC spent this year. This investigation paints a picture of just how much the pro-Israel lobbying group has reshaped elections after starting to spend directly on candidates just 2 years ago 🧵 theintercept.com/2024/10/24/aip…

CNN has played a central role in normalizing this kind of open anti-Arab, anti-Muslim, and anti-Palestinian hate, and it’s sadly totally unsurprising to see such disgusting statements aired so casually on its network now.

I have Democrat friends in the Bay Area that are raging against this election result. These people are NIMBYs who have actively voted down any expansion of housing. I also have moderate friends who got priced out of the Bay Area and moved to Texas to buy homes and just voted for

Just to clarify: this isn’t just the first time since WW2 that all incumbent parties in developed countries lost vote share. It’s the first time since this data was first recorded in 1905. Essentially the first time in the history of democracy (universal suffrage began in 1894).

A lot of NYC locals are coping by blaming gentrifiers. Habibi, gentrifiers in the Brooklyn and Queens waterfront neighborhoods are one of the reasons why it wasn’t a complete red blowout. Another hard truth: NYC’s Trump voters are white ethnic native New Yorkers and immigrants.

Some professional news, as they say. I am so proud of the incredible work we’ve been able to accomplish at grist in recent years. And I’m honored to lead the newsroom in this new capacity. This team, this organization, is truly special. grist.org/updates/grist-…

Living an O-1 doesn't make your immigration experience less stressful. If your company lays you off, you still have to leave the U.S. in 60 days if you can't find another job. Here's John Oliver (lived on an O-1) on his constant worry about not being able to come back:

Eric Adams' future is likely not in City Hall. He's already pivoting to MAGA. This means he won't get elected to anything in NYC, but he could (with a Trump pardon) fully join the Trump universe as a pundit/activist or even federal employee. Ex-Democrats are beloved in the GOP.

Baltimore's drop in homicides - 23% since last year and a staggering 40% from two years ago - should be a national story. Mayor Scott's Group Violence Reduction Strategy, which prioritizes resources to those most at risk and community engagement, should be studied and replicated.
