Today, the DfE published its latest data on school exclusions and suspensions for the 2022/23 academic year. Here is a short thread outlining the key points of note 🧵

1. First up, permanent exclusions (PEX). There have been 2,881 more PEXs issued in 2022/23 than in 2021/22. To break it down, that's: - 443 more in primary - 2,396 more in secondary - 42 more in special schools

is 'safe' for young people of colour, or for any young people more targeted by far right violence. It would be wrong to, and realistically, you know more than many that we could never say that with certainty. It is not even safe for those young people being brought into such

ideologies, who we also worry for. But what we can say with certainty, is that in response to building racism and violence, resistance will grow stronger, and solidarity will run more deeply through our communities. There have always been and will always be people in community,

young people and adults, of all different backgrounds, thinking about new ways (and learning from old ways) to keep our communities safe, to protect each other from all forms of harm, to resist racism. What we can promise, is that you have so many people that you don't even know

wanting to resist with and for you. That's what you can hold on to. We will offer more soon.
