You can scare people into compliance. You can’t scare them into safety. Availability is what stops problems early. Not volume.

We spent all week talking about hidden risk, quiet assumptions, and “the part in between.” And Friday shows up like: “No incidents. All good.” Which is funny because that’s exactly how risk likes to look right before anyone measures it. Happy Friday.

By 2027, most safety dashboards will still count incidents. And leaders will still be surprised by claims. Lagging indicators don’t explain risk. They explain failure after it happens. The real question is: What conditions make this likely?

This is what mindless compliance looks like. Someone says, “Change.” No one asks what kind. They just act. That’s how slip risk gets “managed” too: instructions followed, meaning missed. What can we learn from this?

Safety systems don’t fail because pieces are missing. They fail because no one checks how the pieces behave together. That’s where exposure lives.

“I’ve heard every excuse.” “It looked dry.” “We’ve never had an accident.” “Everyone knows to be careful.” Excuses feel safe. Evidence feels uncomfortable. But only one prevents harm. Test before you assume. 👉 scorecard.slipsafety.co.uk/?utm_campaign=…

It’s Friday. Quick check: Did you measure your floors… Or are you running on vibes? 😅 Hope isn’t a control measure. Testing is. Enjoy the weekend, just don’t slip into denial.

For want of a test, the floor was trusted. For want of friction, the shoe slid. For want of balance, the worker fell. Incidents rarely start big. “Looks fine” is not a control measure.

Stability isn’t proof of control. It’s proof that nothing has broken yet. No incidents ≠ no risk. Measure what feels “fine.”

Most boards treat safety like insurance. Defensive. Necessary. A cost. Wrong. Safety isn’t overhead. It’s operational leverage. Fewer incidents = less friction. Less friction = more capacity. Safety isn’t compliance. It’s a performance multiplier.

Two buildings. A: Zero incidents in 3 years. B: 5 minor slips reported. Which is safer? Most pick A. But B may just have better reporting. In safety, fewer signals can mean one thing: You're flying blind.

Most £200,000 slip claims start as £10 problems. A wet entrance. A near miss. A floor is assumed to be “anti-slip.” Risk is rarely ignored. It’s delayed. And delay is expensive. Where in your building is a £10 signal becoming a £200k claim?

A coin toss. This floor had a 1 in 2 chance of slipping. Looked textured. Felt rough. But looks lie. Testing revealed years of cleaning residue masking the surface. After proper treatment: 50% risk → 1 in a million. Evidence beats assumption.
