This is an Australian Leaf Insect, Phyllium monteithi. They are endemic to the Wet Tropics Region in Queensland. Their body resembles a leaf, even displaying leaf-like venations – this allows them to camouflage easily into their rainforest background. 🌿 😁

Did you know? πŸ€” Cicadas live underground for around 6-7 years. Spending most of their life underground as nymphs (small, wingless cicadas), living on the sap from plant roots. When the nymph reaches full size it digs its way to the surface with its front legs! πŸͺ²

Fin Fact! When you get up close to a Bracket Fungi you see these beautiful circles and many shades of browns. Typically found on the trunks of trees, they feed on biomass produced by other living rainforest organisms and reproduce by sending huge amounts of spores into the airπŸ„

Cairns is truly an amazing region! It is the only place where two natural World Heritage areas meet, the Great Barrier Reef & the Wet Tropics rainforest. ❓This rainforest once stretched all the way out to the continental edge where the Great Barrier Reef grows today! 😲

This is the Medinilla balls-headleyi, native to Tropical North Queensland. Thriving in humid, tropical environments. Although rare, it flourishes with clusters of bright pink blossoms , a stunning visual display in the deep green rainforest. It is the inspiration behind our logo.
