Black poplar (Populus nigra ssp betulifolia) is UK's rarest native hardwood. There may be just 30 or so left in Kent (pic shows one in Bearsted). We're helping fund DNA work to check which are the true species (& not hybrids) as a step towards their protection. #trees BSBI: Botanical Society of Britain & Ireland

As our previous tweets about the Kent Making Space for Nature got such a response, here's a short thread on the event itself. First, it was an excellent morning, with enough variety of speakers to get you thinking (pic is Emma Lansdell of Bumblebee Conservation Trust) #ms4n (1/5)

After 4 long years I'm feeling quite emotional sharing incredible news that The London Resort project has all but collapsed & Swanscombe Peninsula is up for sale! We're a huge step closer to this wildlife haven becoming an area for people and nature to enjoy indefinitely✊️💚🌾

We had an excellent trip to Cliffe Pools RSPB reserve with Kent Field Club today. Highlights included bee-wolf wasp Philanthus triangulum, brown banded carder bee Bombus humilis and the salt marsh short spur beetle Anisodactylus poecioides.
