I have watched this podcast w/ Darren McGarvey 3 times. "We operate frm trauma unconsciously." Think about that. The fear you experiencd *as a child* still operates *in yr body*. If you don't know that, it screws up your adulthood. We all deserve to understnd how to change this.

Play Therapy allows children to process their trauma safely and at their pace. The play enables them to maintain a psychological distance from their trauma. #NationalPTSDAwarenessDay

Regressive play usually forms part of a child's therapeutic journey. They regress to earlier stages of development to 'plug' any gaps they may have. Play Therapy is non-judgmental, and the permissiveness of the therapeutic relationship allows children to choose how they play.

For the entire therapy session each week, the therapist is able to focus on small details about the child. Experiencing this hyperfocus can improve a child's self-worth and self-esteem. Knowing that someone is making an effort to understand them can feel empowering.

Rupture → repair. Rupture → repair. Rupture → repair. Rupture → repair. Rupture → repair. When it comes to children with trauma, this is the work.

Children will be unlikely to have the words to describe the situations they've experienced. They may complain of somatic symptoms such as a tummy ache or headache instead. In Play Therapy, children can use the toys in place of words to express and process their experiences.

When a childs stress response system is activated, they cannot access the thinking part of the brain. We must not go straight for the cortex. We must regulate lower brain parts of the brain, which are oversensitised. Young people cannot reason when emotions are not regulated.🧠🌱

Children understanding their window of tolerance is important in doing trauma work or just working with children in schools. This teaches children how to manage their emotions under stress by giving them a toolkit of inner resources to self-soothe & keep within their window. 🧠🌱
