Wow! An impressive feat of American Spirit & Patriotism. Who knew? (Article): Sorting mail might not seem like a monumental task to most, but in war-torn Europe during World War II, it certainly was for the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion: the only all-Black Women's

In her memoire about commanding the 6888th Battalion, Lt. Col. Charity Adams Earley described the officers quarters as the Hôtel Etats-Unis. I thought I had found it. It turns out that the Hôtel Etats-Unis Opéra opened in 1947, so it couldn't have been the officers' quarters.

Proud to introduce legislation to name the post office in Collinwood in honor of Tech Sergeant Alma Gladys Minter, a Clevelander who served in the historic Six Triple Eight Postal Battalion in WWII.

The Six Triple Eight was the first and only all-Black Women’s Army Corps unit to serve overseas during the war. Minter and the Six Triple Eight cleared a backlog of over 17 million pieces of mail - connecting the home front and the front lines and boosting morale.

But now their story is known. Naming the post office in honor of Tech Sergeant Minter is a way to ensure her legacy, and the legacy of Six Triple Eight, lives on in the hearts of the community she called home. shontelbrown.house.gov/media/press-re…

In the midst of World War II, an army unit of over 800 Black women did what seemed impossible – sorting and clearing warehouses filled with mail meant for American soldiers. Correspondent Alexis Clark introduces us to the 6888th army battalion. Where to watch:
