I appreciate CM Janeese Lewis George questions around the practicality of the Mayor’s Truancy Bill esp for youth at the intersection of being justice involved and truant. CM Christina Henderson had some great points about youth voice and reasons beyond safety hinder youth from attending school.

There is absolutely a need for monthly reports to support schools choose interventions that work for their student pop. I’m more concerned about the data being used to criminalize students. Either way the agencies need to be in communication, often for any of these bills to work.

Though DHS does house the preventative and emergency service…for them to take on what could been an add’l 6k referrals w/their capacity/resources isn’t a good strat. Maybe expand the use of the warmline at CFSA. Either way interagency partnerships are needed.

Sci-fi is my fav genre but I often wonder what happens before dystopian or “utopian” society is established…like how did they get to that point…
