Finding the local (Bury) patch birding hard going this spring. Apart from a few screaming swifts it was dead 💀

2 visits to the patch today resulted in 0 Terns. Had to make do with 6 Common Scoter, female goldeneye, Wheatear and 2 Common sand 🥴

A close encounter with 3 hares! Also Gropper, lesser Whitethroat, 2 whitethroat, Sedge warbler and Swift at Elton res this am

Blackwit sheltering from the blasting NWesterly on the Bury patch tonight. Also a wheatear and few swallows and sand martins passing through

Catching a few rays this afternoon ☀️

Small arrival of migrants at Elton res this am. 2 Redstart, Yellow Wag, 12 Blackcap & 25+ willow warbler. Several swallows north with 3 redpoll & 2 Raven. Also the first breeding record of RN parakeet.

Patch birding this morning. 14 Curlew (site record) 7 LRP, 2 common sand, 2 oystercatcher 3 swallow, house Martin, 24 sand Martin , white wag, 13 goldeneye & 9 teal

Pretty dead on the patch at the minute …unless you like BNGs 😍

Change of scenery today. HP early morning 88 Siskin, linnet and 2 redpoll east, 3 parakeet, curlew, 3 LRP and 8 sand Martin Im allowed to mention.

2 BNG’s on Elton res this morning. The best of a respectable 69 species. Also 2 Blackcap, 3 willow warbler, 15 Chiffchaff, Tawny & little owl, curlew, 2 LRP, 2 Raven, 2 Little egret, 9 Goldeneye & 8 Redwing.

Bit muddy at Elton at the minute 🥴 first willow warbler back, Brambling, Siskin, 40 sand Martin, 3 LRP but generally quiet

Sparrowhawk shot dead at Nosterfield Nature Reserve - North Yorkshire Police appeal for information.

Elton res this morning. 2 wheatear, 100 Sand Martin, 2 Med Gull, Redshank, 8 wigeon and a few mpipits moving

81 Goosander & 43 Goldeneye into roost on the local Bury res tonight. 2 Sand Martin and 17 mpipit flew north

Some good vis mig at Elton res today. 1500 Starling, redshank, & 6 Snipe east. 2 Curlew west, 268 meadow pipit, Med Gull, Skylark, 2 Siskin and 2 Redpoll north

Redwings heading east this evening over Whitefield mcr

3 Drake Common Scoter on Elton res this am. Also Dunlin, Curlew, 2 Oyc, Fieldfare, 5 little egret, 386 Woodpigeon and 20 mpipit north
