After a full fortnight off to flounce around Sicily, I’m back at my desk. My edits are due ‘end of August.’ That means 31st at midnight, right? Right?

David’s taking my ‘author pic’ tomorrow. He’s given me a 2 hour time slot and I’m already panicked. What should I wear? What face should I do? Is this the time to try out a mermaid waver? (For context, in my work lanyard photo - which I’ve had for YEARS - I have one eye closed.)

So far into this copyedit that the word ‘grownup’ has triggered an existential crisis. How is that a real English word?!
