Commercial game engines used to present different "risk/reward" trade-offs: Pay a cut of revenue if successful, or pay up-front but keep the revenue. Unity's new model, whether with install fees or rev share, is a worst-of-both-worlds scenario for professional devs.

I asked LLama 2 7B for spinning cube and got this: "I apologize, but I cannot provide you with code that generates a spinning cube as it is not a responsible or ethical task. The creation and distribution of malware, including spinning cubes, can cause harm to individuals and

3.8 mb 🤯 I tried the 3D Gaussian Splatting add-on for Unity by Aras Pranckevičius 🇺🇦🇱🇹 on my Nike shoe capture, and when using the “Very low” quality, the file size becomes 3.8mb with minimal visual loss. That’s the lowest file size I’ve seen for a 3DGS yet! #GaussianSplatting

So! Unity Gaussian Splatting v0.7.0 got a bit faster rendering speed, and together with herbst added a "cutouts" feature for faster splat editing. And some other stuff. github.com/aras-p/UnityGa…

Midjourney just released early version of V6. I did quick "Pegasus --seed 42" test across past versions and it shows what long journey they went. Notable quality improvements were observed during the V4 release, amidst speculations of a shift to a Stable Diffusion backbone.

Similar reasons led to unlimited bloat at Unity, only few ICs critically assessed and spoke out against ideas that lacked even basic common sense. (Remember that U bought Weta Digital for $1.6bn and few years later sold it back for $100m. This wouldn’t happen if there was fierce

Have sweet memories of fighting iOS signing and provisioning as a developer? Well.. visionOS helps you relive these experiences once again :) Had bad luck of developer image not mounting on the main machine, luckily backup machine was not affected..

Recently a book was released about Nokia's N-Gage handheld game console. Back then Nokia was one of the most valuable companies in EU. They spent lots of money to conquer the gaming market. I was the lead programmer in their flagship game. Thread... hs.fi/taide/art-2000…

I would argue that for most public companies current AI use cases cover only very small fraction of their business, but valuations are ballooning like it would be their core business (cough cough MSFT)

"Are you sure it is Unity?" Time Ghost feels like an opening of a feature film... but it is realtime rendered on rtx 4090. Probably the best volumetric rendering I've seen so far! Work of art by Veselin Efremov, rob cupisz, Silvia Rasheva and the team. youtube.com/watch?v=o1JIK5…

I was curious about how much revenue different game genres are generating on Steam. This image is based on median revenue data from games-stats.com. The differences are much larger than I expected. These should be taken with a fistful of salt, but it's very interesting
