In tonight’s presidential debate the President said the “Portland Sheriff” supports him. As the Multnomah County Sheriff I have never supported Donald Trump and will never support him.

Reporting the facts does not make a journalist biased. Reporting the facts, whether people agree or disagree with said facts, makes a journalist, in fact... a journalist.

We saw two Americas yesterday. In one America we saw record voter turnout driven by Black voters that resulted in the election of the first Black and first Jewish senators from the state of Georgia—our democracy at its best. (4/8)

In the second America we saw a mostly white mob, encouraged by the president, violently invade the seat of our democracy in an attempt to overturn a free and fair election. It was a failed coup—our democracy in peril. (5/8)

I just watched a YouTube video of the attack on the Capitol, and it’s honestly stunning how long members were in the chamber while hundreds of protestors were just outside the doors. Not going to share the link, because it’s awful, but this was such a stunning breach.

According to my tweets, protestors reached the doors at 2:36 pm. According to this video, it was less than 10 minutes between when they reached the doors and Capitol Police shot that woman. I know when it happened. Members were still in the chamber. We were 20 feet away.
