Post Office Limited has had a change of mind on closing the Burravoe Post Office, without replacement, this summer. Alistair Carmichael said that he had written to Post Office management to determine their intentions and the reason for a lack of consultation.

The new United Kingdom – European Union fisheries agreement is for 12 years, from the end of June next year until the end of June 2038. In return, the UK gets agreement on reducing checks on food and agricultural products exported into the Eu, including fish and farmed salmon.

A seventy year old woman was pronounced dead at the scene yesterday after she fell from cliffs on the north-west side of Saint Ninian’s Isle, where the cliffs are up to 40 metres high. The next of kin were informed.

Called out to attend the cliff incident were coastguard rescue teams, a coastguard helicopter based at Sumburgh, the stand-in Lerwick lifeboat Fraser Flier, the Sumburgh rescue rigid inflatable of the Scottish Fire and Rescue service, the ambulance service and the police.

A widespread power cut affected homes and businesses in the South Mainland today. It its peak, over 1,900 customers were without power. The afternoon flight to Sumburgh from Aberdeen was diverted and the return flight was cancelled.
