The 1980s was a magical decade for music. We were fortunate to enjoy that fantastic era. In starting out on the Commerce course in 1986 with 150+ other hopefuls in Cork, we navigated through 4 years – branching out in our final 12 months – some towards MIT and Software (1 of 4)

2 of 5 ... most seemed to veer towards Finance and Accounting, with another stream focussed on Marketing and Management. Graduating out of college in 1990, there was no Celtic Tiger then, not even a whisker of a Celtic kitten. Employment was low, Emigration was high.

3 of 5 ... There was No Internet. No Mobile phones. No Social Media. Did it create a tough skin in us all, a resilience, a “stick-with-it ness”? When we got opportunities, we made the most of them and appreciated them – developing a get-it-done attitude.

Last weekend, meeting more than 80 fellow classmates 35 years on, I heard many stories of journeys through life – incorporating family, kids, pets and travel – work and opportunities, from Australia to America, Paris to Dubai, Cornwall to Scotland, Derry to Kerry, Cork to Dublin.

There were many other remarkable people from the class, who could not make the evening. Sadly, a few who are no longer with us. Emerging in 1990 wondering “How greener is the far-away hill?” - to stay of leave is what we all decided.

There was no linear direction. We’ve navigated to get to where we are today. It was a pleasure to have shared those years with the B. Comm group back in the late 80s. It was wonderful to share so many memories together last week.
