We are excited to welcome Dr. Leila Character to our department this Fall! Dr. Character’s research focuses on solving environmental problems using remote sensing & machine learning. She will be teaching courses focused on GIS, remote sensing, Python, & related field methods 🌟

🌟 Congratulations to Associate Professor, Dr. David Moss, on his promotion & tenure, and Dr. John Strait on being awarded the Conference USA Academic Achievement Award. Both were honored tonight at the Academic Awards Dinner 🌟

Geographer, Dr. Velvet Nelson, along with Dr. Pamela Rader (Georgian Court University) presented at the International Geographical Congress held in Dublin, Ireland. Dr. Nelson is also a board member for the International Geographical Union Commission on the Geography of Tourism.

Dr. Ross Guida’s GEOG 4330 - Hydrology and Water Resources class - was out on campus this afternoon testing infiltration rates. Some places had low infiltration rates which shows soil compaction and explains why some areas flood.

We are wrapping up Fall 2024’s Welcome Week tomorrow with our Nitrogen Ice Cream Social. Can’t wait to see y’all at 2 pm tomorrow in the LDB Atrium 🍨

We love seeing our alumni in the news! Geography alumna, Mandy Truman, is working on her Ph.D at Texas State University and was recently awarded a fellowship to do archival research at the University of MS. Her dissertation research stems from Dr. Strait’s blues field course 🎶

Congratulations to 🌎 Geography major and Weather & Climate TA, Ava Herrera, who has an internship this Fall with KPRC-2 in Houston. Ava will be following in alumna Sophia Cruz’s footsteps and exploring the broadcast weather world 🌞
