Labour wants to scrap PIP for those with "lower needs" i.e. scoring 3 or less for each activity. Let’s look at what that means. Need someone to lift you in and out of the shower? = 3 points. Need someone to dress your lower body – to put on your pants and trousers? = 2 points.

Comparing disability benefits to pocket money is vile. We're not lazy kids asking for cinema tickets. We're adults wanting our human right to dignity And if disabled people are "desperate to work" how is pushing us into poverty going to help? You can feel the contempt

Imagine trying to justify these cuts by saying ‘we’re not taking money away from them right now’, oh that’s fine then mate 🙄 I despair at this government and their attempts to justify these attacks on disabled people

My friend Katie is in urgent need of a new wheelchair so she can continue working as a dance teacher and at Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital, can you spare just £5 this payday to help her? Without a new wheelchair she will have to stop working. gofundme.com/f/katies-life-…

Kidlit colleagues, a reminder that JK Rowling *funded* this challenge over the definition of women at the Supreme Court. Every time you choose to work with her, platform her, take a stance that aligns with her, buy her books, nominate her for awards, she uses that to fund hate.

Almost nine in ten Personal Independence Payment (PIP) claims for the standard daily living element would not pass a proposed shake-up of how the disability benefit is assessed mirror.co.uk/money/exact-nu…

Excuse me for focusing on mental health claimants for a moment but 23% of PIP recipients with psychotic disorders as primary condition would lose eligibility if the evil 4+ rule goes through. This is incredibly dangerous. Another important FOI, this time from Benefits & Work.

This is a devastating blow for the disabled community, not only because Jess gives so much but as a startling sign as what’s to come. The gov are banging on with their “get disabled people back to work” bullshit whilst actively making it harder for us to work. They want us dead

The fight for disability benefits is a long one, but this campaign is URGENT. MPs will debate in a matter of weeks. It’s vital you contact your MP and tell them to oppose these cruel cuts, we've made this easier for you #TakingThePIP takingthepip.co.uk

Dr Jay Watts (@shrink_at_large) 's Twitter Profile Photo

I can’t imagine how out of touch an MP would have to be to think giving disabled claimants more time to seek support will ‘soften the blow’ of cuts. PIP and LCWRA ARE the support, don’t you understand? The evidence shows folk will overwhelmingly not suddenly have a wage!

In utter dismay at the Government's benefits bill today. Utterly ridiculous to claim it is supportive to give 3 months additional payments to those having their PIP taken away... and then what? Do we suddenly stop being Disabled?

Erin Ekins (she/her) (@queerlyautistic) 's Twitter Profile Photo

This is the crux of it: you could have two people in EXACTLY the same situation (same condition, same impact on life, same support needs) and only one of them will qualify for PIP based purely on whether they became disabled before or after the arbitrary cut-off point.

Dr Shani Dhanda (@shanidhanda) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Most disabled people (8 out of 10) weren’t born disabled; they became disabled through accident, illness and injury. That means any system that marginalises us is marginalising the future you, too. This is not the solution. The government has not listened. #TakingThePip

Frances Ryan (@drfrancesryan) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Every single non-disabled person who is supporting the PIP cuts should be handed a £15k “disability costs” bill each year and asked how they plan on paying it. Because people don’t really need benefits? You can find £15k on top of rent, food, utilities and your summer hol? Right?
