When in Munich… I spotted two of these Golf ‘Madison’ editions just minutes apart, as I ambled back to my flat in a Höfbrau-fuelled haze. One was a charmingly dusty grey, but it was this one - decked out in a coat of VW’s lively Montanagrün - that really caught my eye.

The Madison arrived in dealerships in 1990, with a wide vieltält of features, including a rotary instrument cluster and a plush marine striped interior. Power ranged from 55hp to a nifty 90hp, with lower-emission models also available. I’d love to see one again.

Bad angles (trop dur) Except for the Primera, all these cars were found on the same street. You'd think, then, that I'd have managed to take just one photo I was happy with. Still, where else can you find an artefact like this washed-out '87 Starlet? (Portugal aside).

Originally, this week's find was to be a fetching Opel Calibra, which I'd been eyeing since last summer. I've always fancied GM's sexy Vectra, especially this 16-valver with gaudy plates and bubbling bodywork. Sadly, the scrappers had beaten us to it. Have an old photo and weep.

Swedish heavy metal Time's a-tickin'. Between a raft of college work, commuting and endless rainy days, making time for car spotting is proving difficult. That said, I've been able to get out when I can. It's how I found this battle-scarred 850 just the other week.

It's all about the little details with this one; a worn-out SIPS sticker clings to the rear window, while scraped bumpers and a dented bootlid hint at a hard life. Don't forget its dealer plates and stickers, too; big scorers in banger bingo.

I found this rather unloved Rover 620 back in 2021. I thought I'd visit it this week; surprisingly, it's still there. It's been off the road since 2016 and looks decidedly tatty to suit - with a mostly detached exhaust and some nasty dents and scrapes on its wings and flanks.

I'd like to see it return to the road one day, but I suspect eight years of disuse have rendered it about as rigid as double cream. Still, I'm glad it's still there. Rotting away, but there. Dealer plates and all.
