Shirley School Council visited Westminster on Wed 22nd March to learn about the history of the Houses of Parliament and how democracy works. We also met Daniel Zeichner our local MP, and saw statues in Parliament Square. A wonderful day out.

The legendary Michael Rosen visited us to read his poems about refugees and inspire our writing. He also came to Reception and read Bear Hunt with us! Year 4-6 children are writing refugee poems leading up to refugee week 19-25 June. Thank you Michael! #RefugeeWeek

Cambridge MP Daniel Zeichner visited us and enjoyed our Diversity Week assembly as well as meeting our School Council. He kindly answered questions about being an MP, what inspires him, why he likes Cambridge United and even who is better Messi or Ronaldo!

Shirley Primary had its own election at the end of May! Everyone took part - all ages and classes, including the staff and parents!

Our good friend Michael Rosen came to visit us again, to work with Shirley children and Castle School guests and share poems. He read out his own poems as well as some Shirley ones!

Our Y5/6 Cricketers represented Shirley with pride and great skill at the Cambs tournament in Foxton this week. They won two matches, showed great teamwork and were very sporting to all the schools they played against. Well done Shirley!

On Friday a travelling theatre group wowed us with songs, acting and stories to bring the history of the Cambridgeshire Fens to life! This was performed to Y4 and Y5 pupils in a special yurt on our field. Thank you to the NI Encounter group - we loved it!
