When I was a grad student, I very much enjoyed Fraeed Zakaria's writings (both scholarly papers/book and commentaries). But I can tell as he becomes part of the US foreign policy/national security establishment, he has lost his critical thinking a lot. Fareed Zakaria

This again shows that manufacturing is equally, if not far more, challenging than design. Following the same logic, Nvidia is nothing without TSMC, and Apple is nothing without the whole ecosystem of manfacturing. Go figure!

I visited the Industrial Park (It must be Huajian) in 2017. It has a great story behind (I guess this film tells). Ther is no free lunch, no free economic development. It takes dedication, hardwork, and some luck...

What if the whole AI thing is a real bubble (despite real utilities and benefits)? What will happen to the US stock market and the whole GAI race?

I feel that when people trying to understand China's latent and manifest industrial power, they fail to appreciate you need to measure along the four dimensions: scope, scale, integration, and depth.

Better be prepared for what follows from this...(Then, this again shows that much of Europe has been a US quasi-colony...)

Xiaomi shares plunged nearly 9% after a fatal crash involving its SU7 electric car, Bloomberg reports According to the outlet, a 31-year-old driver in China collided with another vehicle, crossed into the opposite lane, and the car caught fire. Witnesses tried to pull the man

Cannot agree more. He was essentially doing another nice spin on the European miracle (undoubtedly important but a single case you can explain with all the good things together, so easy)...

I would suspect people with decent IQs and knowledge about the past seven years will never believe this kind of bs..., from WSJ or whatever.... Do they ever read deep stuff?

Some individuals are not very good liars, and I think Sec. Bessent is one of them. For that, he has my genuine sympathy (really). Oh, what is the right term for US measures against China? If not coercion, then perhaps "counter-measures"? Haha...

RIP Tomiichi Murayama. I interviewed him in 2015 and found him to be a decent, principled man, still sharp as a tack in his nineties. “Japanese schools didn’t teach much history (of World War 2) because the government couldn’t decide if it was a good war or a bad war,” he said.

Li Chenggang is not a low-level offcial: he carries a rank of full minister, even though he is also Vice-minister of Commerce (so Bessent's or Greer's counterpart). Why would you insult your counterpart on TV? Can't you be more prepared for interview? Or is this insult tactic?
