The ONLY instructional strategy with a NEGATIVE effect size: Lecturing. -0.26 or 1/2 a year's loss Why? It's passive. There's no room for engagement or interaction necessary for deep understanding & skill development. Just a lot of one person talking.

I'm heartbroken today to learn of the passing education legend Harry Wong. His book on The First Days of School helped innumerable teachers become more effective in helping ALL students learn well. He was an inspiration to everyone he met and a dear friend to me.

Great teammates bring out the best in each other. They support, encourage, and motivate each other to play their best. And when necessary, they criticize and correct each other to make improvements.

Teachers who are passionate, on the ball, sometimes outspoken and have high expectations in the classroom, also have the same expectations of their leaders. Effective leaders embrace these staff members because they know together they make each other better! Iron Sharpens Iron

CTE is an important part of education that we need to focus on more. I can get an appt with my Dr in a couple days. It took me weeks to get my refrigerator repaired and cost more than the Dr.

It takes time to become a highly effective teacher. It also takes time to become a highly effective leader. Both need patience, support, encouragement, praise and effective mentoring. With focus on maximizing strengths, not weaknesses.

Make Tier 1 the priority Make Tier 1 the priority Make Tier 1 the priority Tiers 2 & 3 are a direct reflection of how effective your Tier 1 is. Design Tier 1 so that it's all it should be for learners & teachers. It's the only way things change to benefit everyone.

In the end-of-year chaos, try taking a little time for one of these four activities to help students celebrate their growth and set new intentions for next year. 🎉 📅
