Well folks, we're back for another season of #WeedIDWednesday! This first weed for the week is one that has been popping up a bit in Central AB (Thanks Carol Holt for some of these pics). I think I get pictures of it every year and I start out stumped. Name that weed!

Grass weeds are so tricky to identify when they’re small. Sometimes it can be helpful to carefully dig up the seedling and see if the seed is still attached! Can you ID these 2? Some hints: Left: Auricle ✅ Membranous Ligule ✅ Right: Auricle ❌ Membranous Ligule ✅

We just propagated some foxtail barley for a small study. We have kept these plants alive for a year so far in the greenhouse. We cut it back pretty heavily over the winter but it is alive...

Yesterday was the Manitoba Agriculture Weed Seedling ID Day in Carman, so lets review some of what we learned with a little help from the 1951 publication "Farm Weeds: Illustrated in Colour"! A thread 🧵

OK for this weeks #WeedIDWednesday this is one that often gets sent to me with a panic that there's kochia being found... this is not kochia... so what is it? I have included a flower to help this week. -See? I can be nice sometimes!

Seeding salt-tolerant forages may turn around unproductive or marginal acres. Forage blends suitable for saline acres will protect the soil and compete with weeds, which will help make unproductive acres more profitable. Learn more: #SaskAg saskatchewan.ca/business/agric…

Pulse crops can be sensitive in their susceptibility to herbicides. Injury can result from drift, carryover in the soil, contamination of the sprayer, miscalibration of equipment, or overlap. Learn more about symptoms here: ow.ly/sZwF50VS4k6

We saw some weird purple spotting on lambsquarters growing out in the field edge during our walk today. Anyone recognize the spotting? Other weeds around but no others were spotted. We brought a few back to track if it spreads or they recover.

Which weeds escape management in winter wheat and early-seeded spring wheat? We are seeking volunteers from Saskatchewan with winter wheat or spring wheat (or durum) fields seeded before April 15th for a survey of uncontrolled weeds. Fields visited in July/August.
