The study addresses the challenge of sustainability and production costs in cultured meat by utilizing plant-based scaffolds and a novel laser welding method for constructing sterile and leak-free bioreactors

A key innovation of our friends from the Giron lab was the development of a laser welding technique that effectively joins thermoplastic films, enabling rapid prototyping and cost-effective fabrication of fluidic systems for cell cultivation.

By incorporating food-grade plant-based scaffolds from rice into the bioreactor system, and showing cell proliferation, the study showcased the potential for using sustainable materials in cultured meat production. Thanks, Oded Shoseyov, Y. Giron and especially Gilad!
