During college I worked for Ultimate Rugby, a similar app covering the top Pro Rugby leagues in the world. I remember thinking it would be great to do similar for GAA but that it just wasn’t feasible. Fergus has very much proven the second part wrong 👏🏼

Seems like Coldrick got the call right by the rule book and fair play to him. This many intricate changes to rules in the one go was always going to result in issues like this and the argument that it’s “an experimental year” is a disservice to those players

The one drawback of covering the brilliant Kildare and Louth game was not being in Portlaoise. David Sheehan and Mattie on LMFM RADIO made the drive home a sweet one 💚💛

Huge win for Meath. The provincial finalist hangover has taken many victims over the years and while it took a while to click today, a lot of character in grinding that out. Looking forward to chatting about it on the Irish Examiner Sport podcast

Allowing for a pretty nervy start, Meath’s skill-set and ability to manage the woeful conditions was a telling factor in the result

Looking forward to calling the Derry v Galway game on Sunday. Has the feel of a bit of a last stand for this Derry team while Galway will definitely be feeling the heat with Armagh waiting in round 3

One great unintended consequence of the solo and go: fellas holding their head after harmless fouls are quick to get to their feet when a teammate gets on with things!

What a contest here in Cetic Park. Both teams had to show immense character at multiple stages and no lack of football ability either. Sets up a serious last round !

I’m getting quite lucky with the games I’m covering on GAA+. Another classic and unfortunately for Derry they lose out again. Few other games on today though, did I miss any big results? 🤔👀💚💛

Heroic performances all over but special mentions for Conor Gray, Jordy Morris and Ronan Ryan for what I feel were their finest individual performances in a Meath GAA jersey. Unbelievable response to the momentum shift in the second half!

Not sure if the Ambassador was being intentionally analytical but I actually think this is a huge play. Donegal have got it back to 5 before half time, huge turnover and have a pod ready to burst but decline a perfect solo and go opportunity. Summed up some of their failings

34,000 attended the women’s Euros final on Sunday. Huge chance for the LGFA to set an ambitious target and try to clear their own 2019 record of 56,000. I’ve no doubt Meath fans will travel in numbers, as they have for previous finals and for the men’s games this summer
