Our paper is out today in nature! Imagine getting this plot when studying single-cell data of growing bacteria! Could it be the cell cycle?! We found that a gene’s response to its replication reveals gene regulation on a genomic scale. nature.com/articles/s4158… Andrew Pountain

Can’t believe this is out!! This is the culmination of >6yr of work to define the mode of action of the compound C10 in Mtb. There’s a LOT we still don’t know about this remarkable compound, but proud of the work accomplished with @StallingsLab Fredrik Almqvist Gary Patti labs! 😃

Following up our Cell Reports paper, an avirulent C. difficle clinical isolate out-competes virulent strains in mice via quickly depleting multiple amino acids, and protects mice from developing colitis!

Excited to share our recent pre-print! The Vibrio cholerae encoded Nezha anti-phage system (SIR2-HerA) restricts virulent vibriophages ICP1, ICP2, and ICP3 by depleting NAD+ (Abi💀). However, an ICP1 isolate can overcome this by encoding putative NAD+ regenerating proteins! ⚡️

Happy to share a chapter of my PhD thesis🐣! We review the diversity of the cell envelope in Terrabacteria which tell us a lot about outer membrane biogenesis and the diderm-to-monoderm transition. Thanks to my co-authors Najwa Taib @ChrisBel70 Simonetta Gribaldo nature.com/articles/s4157…

The Bartlett Lab is open for business at the Wadsworth Center! We study pathogens with "unusual" shapes (balls & corkscrews) to find vulnerabilities in their growth plans, and learn how bacterial shape impacts infection. We are hiring... join us! wadsworth.org/research/labor…

The cytoplasm is not necessarily chemically uniform, says Delerue, Updegrove, & @Sylvia_Char. Surface of the developing spore inside the #Bacillus subtilis mother cell is acidic & needs a chaperone to activate MurG (lipid II synthase) pnas.org/doi/epub/10.10…
