What does diffusion look like in the crowded bacterial cytoplasm? Is it as weird as people say? Check out our new preprint on 3D tracking of GEMs in live E. coli from Diana Valverde Mendez and Alp Mehmet Sunol! A fantastic experiment-theory collaboration with The Zia Lab. biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

Valuable combo of rapid 3D spt in bacteria with extended timescale coarse grained simulations. Useful and perhaps pleasantly not intuitive results about the prevalence or not of anomalous diffusion

Check out our newest preprint: P. aeruginosa uses pilus-mediated motility to invade and disperse S. aureus biofilms, rendering Sa cells susceptible to Pa antimicrobials. Without invasion Pa restricts Sa expansion forming dense Sa colonies with altered physiology Andrea Sánchez Peña

🎉 new preprint posted of potential interest, lead by talented masters student Cyril Achard: 🔥fully unsupervised 3D cell segmentation that is as good (or better) than leading supervised methods, with napari🔬 integration! 👏 biorxiv.org/content/10.110… ➕new 3D GT dataset ⬇️🧵

How do bacteria grow and move in large groups where cells appear adhered to each other but can move freely? Using capillary forces from thin layers of water! Check out our new preprint with Matt Black, Chenyi Fei, Ricard Alert Zenón and Ned Wingreen: biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

Excited to share my lab’s first preprint! We found that increasing DNA binding by type IV pili in an Acinetobacter pathogen can boost its natural transformation rates by ~100-fold, demonstrating that DNA binding is rate-limiting for natural transformation. biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

Check out our new paper which describes large scale 3D simulations of M xanthus colonies. We recapitulate many features from experiments and learn some new things as well! biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
