I periodically think about making a list of the stuff that I think is basically perfect: movies books, games, whatever. For an inaugural entry: Outer Wilds. I can’t remember any other game giving me so much joy (except for the anglerfish). The title song is wondrous too.

Another addition to my list of perfect things: The Villa-Lobos 5 preludes for guitar. For those unfamiliar with much classical guitar the fluidity and range of these pieces is a revelation: youtube.com/watch?v=JK-PUp… Who knew that the guitar could sound like this?

Just discovered this dude: youtu.be/Lw_fWpymCDg I wish more people did this sort of analysis of popular music. I enjoy the occasional rock critic, but it boggles my mind how little analysis of the *music* there is. Glad to find someone doing it right.

I should use Twitter as a trial balloon for real-world extroversion. Check back here in a couple months for another tweet!

Just discovered Jeff Tweedy and Family did live-streamed performances of Wilco songs during the pandemic: youtu.be/-LOg8bXup8c?si… the above is a beautiful rendition of Pot Kettle Black with his son on knee drums. These are so lovely.

My 3-year old daughter gets very angry at me when I sing, and will eventually throw a tantrum. She basically doesn’t want any adult to sing any song in her vicinity. Any suggestions to allow me to sing again?

Someone should do an acoustic album of all the greatest shoegaze tracks so we can finally figure out how they hold up as songs. Are the melodies strong enough to stand on their own?

Where can I find podcast that break down the songwriting techniques of an artist over their career? I want episodes explaining why I can instantly tell something is an Elliot Smith song, or a Radiohead song, even when it’s covered by someone else.
