“#Subsidy is necessary at the initial stage of innovation. However, we should encourage innovation while ensuring #trade is fair,” said Prof. Bai Chong-En at the 54th St. Gallen Symposium. He suggested further research on how to adjust subsidies as firms grow. #TsinghuaFocus

Tsinghua SEM Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) #TsinghuaRen Jenny joined an exchange program & learned how #TCM works not only as treatment, but as prevention. From personalized remedies to combination therapies with good results, it deepened her belief in holistic & preventative care models that the world could learn from.

Tsinghua SEM Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) “The U.S. & China are better together when they collaborate & I’d love to be part of that bridge,” says #TsinghuaRen Jenny. As she graduates, she hopes to help launch a U.S.–China joint venture center on anti-aging & longevity to enhance health span. #THUAndBeyond

“Participating in #business competitions Tsinghua SEM was the most profound part of #MyTsinghuaStory,” says Lance Ge (Australia). Through real-world #caseanalysis and teamwork, he’s ready to leave #Graduation2025 with resilience and friendships to carry #THUAndBeyond.

In a quiet Chongqing town, Tsinghua alum Zhang Shengping from Tsinghua SEM is leading rural change—growing peppers, sharing knowledge, and driving development on the ground!

"I am willing to remain rooted in the soil like a seed, writing more wonderful stories alongside my fellow villagers in these hopeful fields," says Zhang Shengping, an alumnus of Tsinghua SEM, who has become a “pepper expert” and a key driver of rural development.

Tsinghua SEM After witnessing farmers struggle to sell their Sichuan peppercorns due to a lack of scientific management, Zhang established a "pepper school" that uses simple rhymes and hands-on teaching to make agricultural techniques accessible, nurturing 167 agricultural technicians.

Tsinghua SEM Under Zhang’s leadership, the production of peppercorns has been maximized through a complete "cultivation-processing-sales" chain, increasing from 350t to 534t in 5 years. He now hopes to better connect farmers with market demands & create a sustainable rural development model.

“Chasing typhoons isn’t about conquering nature, it’s about protecting lives,” says Xu Yinglong, an alumnus Tsinghua SEM. As Chief Forecaster at the National Meteorological Center of CMA, Xu & his team spent 30+ years refining China’s operational typhoon forecasting systems.

Tsinghua SEM Xu's team has safeguarded 510k people during Typhoon Yagi in 2024 by providing timely typhoon forecasts that enabled early evacuations. They also used the CMA’s “Fengqing” AI system, integrating physics-based models with machine learning to improve typhoon track forecasts.
