A new railway200 exhibition plus events at Whitstable Museum Whitstable Museum, in partnership with Southeastern celebrating 200 years since the world's first steam hauled passenger railway (the Canterbury & Whitstable) received royal assent. 5th June - 26th July.

200 years ago today, royal assent was granted for construction of the Canterbury & Whitstable Railway, which became the world's first steam hauled passenger railway. To celebrate, Southeastern has teamed up with Whitstable Museum Whitstable Museum with a brand new exhibition & events.


Crab and Winkle Line Canterbury City Council @Se_railway’s Mark Jones has worked closely with the Whitstable Museum and the theSeasideMuseum in Herne Bay to put on two exhibitions about the history of the railway in the area. The Herne Bay exhibition runs until Saturday 19 July, and the Whitstable Museum exhibition running


Today, we celebrated the bicentenary of the Canterbury & Whitstable Railway being granted royal assent, with Southeastern, Whitstable Museum, & Crab and Winkle Line, & a new history panel at Whitstable station, followed by a private opening of the railway200 exhibition at Whitstable Museum.


On Sat 14th June, I'm hosting 2 Railway history walks in classic uniform with old photos. Herne Bay station history tour 12pm (station booking hall, for theSeasideMuseum, Herne Bay). Whitstable railway heritage walk 3pm Whitstable Museum. Both are free of charge. Booking details below -
