Building on the success of being involved in the International Quiet Ocean Experiment (IQOE) we'd love to invite all our African Collaborators to get on the international map with WOPAM and Make Africa Heard! #acoustics #marinescience

Look at out #Soundtrap just sneaking in on the Acoustic Tracking Array Platform mooring there...off to recording some humpback whale calls over the migration season for Erin Ross-Marsh PhD work. Go listen for the those whale moans little hydrophones.

Sea Search Director Dr Simon Elwen will be on CapeTalk on 567AM at 10h35 this morning to talk about the unusual situation of killer whales 'attacking' boats around Spain. Why now? What do they want? Will it happen here? Tune in to learn more.

Only 5 days left to submit abstracts - African Bioacoustics Conference in Cape Town - Oct 2024. (Other continents welcome but a strong focus on building links in Africa)! Always a great conference!

Lots of learning this week. And networking :) interesting seeing that many of the detection and classifier methods seem to be plateauing in what they can achieve. Also "the humpback problem" too many noisy variable hbw songs making it hard to find other rarer whales!

A busy week of conferencing for the Sea Search team this past week at the largest gathering of ocean conservationists in the world at the #IMCC7 - Simon and Sasha also presented some of their work looking at the more elusive species along our coastlines #doinggoodscience

This is what rabies looks like in cape fur seal pups. The past two weeks have seen the first positive rabies cases in pups, with tired pups finding themselves on our beaches. Please keep dogs and children away and report unusual behaviours. Video taken by Animal Ocean
