🏊🏽‍♂️ The Prevent Drowning Foundation of San Diego and San Diego Junior Lifeguards hosted their pier jump today. 100% of proceeds raised benefit efforts to save lives by funding swim lessons in communities and providing aquatic safety education for all. This important story highlights several societal failures & systems designed to produce outcomes none of us should accept. San Diego’s recently funded multidisciplinary outreach team should help folks like Angel & are part of the more humane & effective system we must build.

Today is a solemn day, marking 1 year since the fall of Kabul. For the last year I have had the honor of leading the #AfghanEvac team. This morning at 8am we shared this open letter to the Afghan diaspora in Dari, Pashto, and English. It’s a quick read and we mean every word.

“Housing ends homelessness.” The Mayor said it and I agree. When these homes are completed, lives will be transformed and our whole community will benefit. Very appreciative for the partnership with San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria and Supervisor Nathan Fletcher on this very important effort.

This is all an effort to reduce #methane leaking from landfills, a potent greenhouse gas warming the planet. The cost of throwing food in a landfill is not only material, it’s existential.

Climate action can’t wait. Neither can taking action to free San Diego from the 100-year old chains of the People’s Ordinance. There’s a reason why climate champions such as Climate Action Campaign and SanDiego350 have long championed this reform. Measure B is essential climate action

A few resignations and apologies won’t solve the underlying problems exposed in the LA City Council recordings. Those of us in the Latino community need to commit to creating a better future for all, not just some.

No matter how many people we house and shelter, we can’t make noticeable progress so long as we allow more people to fall into homelessness. Eviction protection is homelessness prevention & an essential part of making the progress we all want to see.
