For ten years, Caroll Simpson operated a fishing business by herself and kept a running journal of the fantastic and frightening events each day, where she found tranquility and the inspiration for her book Alone In The Great Unknown (Harbour Publishing).
The Sunshine Coast is known for its excellent writers. Case in point: J. Edward Chamberlin and Theresa Kishkan. Both will read from their new books (UAlberta Press Douglas & McIntyre) and speak to the power of storytelling on Saturday, August 19. Tickets available at our link in bio.
Tamar Glouberman's career as an outdoor guide has given her many opportunities to travel, but she is most grateful for adventures in remote areas of North America among wild rivers and grizzly bears. The memoir Chasing Rivers: A Whitewater Life (Douglas & McIntyre) is her first book.
Carrie Mac’s latest novel is the #1 bestselling Last Winter (Random House Group Canada), a story of one family’s collapse and a community’s grief in the face of tragedy. Carrie Mac is the winner of several awards, including a BC Book Prize and a CBC Non-Fiction Prize.
Amanda Lewis is a big-tree tracker and an award-winning book editor. Born in Dublin, Ireland, she now divides her time between the internet and a small island in BC. Tracking Giants: Big Trees, Tiny Triumphs and Misadventures in the Forest (Greystone Books) is her first book.
What a way to end our 2023 festival! We'll close with musicians The Paperboys, who will be joined by Steve Mitchell in performing a selection of original material in English and Spanish to represent their Mexican and Chilean heritages. Visit our bio for tickets!
