🚨🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🚨🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🚨 Shocking news: the Scottish Government is breaking its promise on arts funding. In February, thousands joined our campaign to speak out against a £6.6 million cut to Creative Scotland. It worked. Ministers abandoned the cut. But now they're bringing it back.

After the Scottish Budget, responding to over 15,000 Campaign for the Arts supporters who opposed the arts cuts, Deputy First Minister John Swinney confirmed that "the Scottish Government will provide an uplift of £6.6 million for Creative Scotland for 2023-24". ('An uplift' = no cut...)

The SNP even took to social media to declare that they were "substantially increasing funding" and "supporting the arts and culture sector at this challenging time", to the tune of £6.6 million. x.com/theSNP/status/…

But seven months on, the £6.6 million pledged to Creative Scotland hasn't been delivered. And now Culture Secretary Angus Robertson has told them that it won't be. parliament.scot/-/media/files/…

This 'u-turn on a u-turn' is an extraordinary betrayal of Scotland's cultural sector, all those who campaigned to support it, and the Scottish Government's own commitments to protect it. Scotland deserves better than this.

Tomorrow morning, the Scottish Parliament's Culture Committee (Constitution, Europe, External Affairs & Culture) will meet to consider the financial position of Scotland's cultural sector. We are clear: it is in a state of deepening crisis, and it needs backing, not broken promises. Stand by for our new campaign...
