It’s back to school time in Suffolk and the SCPD has been busy.  Recently, the department attended a back to school event hosted by the NAACP.  Every child was offered a free backpack and school supplies for the upcoming year.

SCPD members and other law enforcement agencies participated in the annual Blessing of the Shields at the Church of St. Patrick in Bay Shore Sunday morning.  The mass included a prayer and blessing for law enforcement.

The SCPD remembers PO Robert Kirwan, who died of 9/11 related cancer on 9/9/23.      Officer Kirwan began his career in 1975 and was assigned to the Emergency Service Section in 1979, where he spent the next 30 years.       He retired after 37 years with SCPD in April of 2012

SCPD lost 6 members to 9/11-related illnesses following their dedicated work at the WTC in the weeks that followed. Today, we honor Chief Thomas Compitello, Sgt. James Farrell, Sgt. Dennis Reichardt, Det. Stephen Mullen, P.O. Craig Capolino & P.O. Robert Kirwan for their service.

Current and former members of the Suffolk County Police Department recently participated in the four-day Tour de Force 9/11 Memorial Bike Ride through Maryland and Delaware. Participants raise money families of law enforcement members killed in the line of duty.

Brentwood East Middle School hosted Speak Up!, an event about suicide prevention and anti-bullying. Deputy Police Commissioners Kevin Catalina Belinda Groneman and several members of the community spoke. Participants then gathered for good food, fun sports, and cool crafts.

Third Precinct members won 2nd place at the 10th Annual Cast Iron Chef Cooking Competition hosted by the New York Institute of Technology. Sgt. Mike Repalone, Det. Ralph Hudson, and Officers Chris Ferreira and Billy Mugno donated the $2000 prize to the Warrior Ranch Foundation.
