I wanted to see if this little sphere was part of this mm or not. Turns out it was a little terrestrial hitchhiker. The bottom half looks broken off to me, so part of it may be missing. And the last picture is just amazing to be able to capture at that scale.

Another interesting find, this one with a broken bubble, a crack along phase transition and a little collection of iron, nickel, and chromite in the shape of South America. :)

Here’s two super duper close ups of a larger mm I pulled out randomly to image. There are a couple spots that look foggy and yellow, this is the light passing through the glass, and in one spot you can see a beautiful iridescent rainbow.

Each time I bring my mms into the SEM I carbon coat them to reduce the likelihood of charging. Here’s a super duper close up of a before during and after sem session. As you can tell, it’s a lot more reflective on the after.

For reference here are two images after putting the same mm from the last post in my ultrasonic cleaner. The first image was after about 20 seconds and the other was after about a min in the machine.

Because there’s nothing better than a super duper close up on a Monday morning… :) this is two separate images of the same mm.

Four different locations of the same micrometeorite. I need to bring this one into the lab I’m not sure what is causing the golden color. Plus it has some pretty amazing structures.

When the crystals are extremely flat they create this mirror like surface with the lighting from my setup. It looks rather strange but this is exactly what I see under the scope.

I usually use backscatter at the SEM so I can see the contrast between different minerals but sometimes the way secondary looks it just turns out amazingly well.
