Tonight we had the honor to join PetersburgNPS in commemorating the lives of the enslaved community at City Point alongside Museum Curator Emmanuel Dabney and the music and dance of Akoma de Gado. Thanks to all who attended.

Appreciate the gracious spirit of @bethallisonbarr’s tweet, something rare on this platform. Though The Gospel Coalition’s apology doesn’t appear to state what they are asking forgiveness for. That lack of explicitness wouldn’t fly in my house.

Of all the monuments for the GOP to pick as representing ā€œweā€ā€¦is this a genuine Sankofa moment? Jefferson: arguably the most blatantly racist of the early presidents & his story shows the centrality of Black people and slavery in ā€œwhere we come fromā€

Ranger Rachael Nicholas masterfully weaving together the histories of monuments Gettysburg NMP battle walk in June. Love how she ended at Warfield house, the Black family farm whose house is just as much a monument as the other more grandiose ones.

Pete Carmichael from ⁦Civil War Institute⁩ was just fantastic today ⁦Gettysburg NMP⁩ battle walk: got us to ā€œlook behind the linesā€ & see enslaved Black men & the humanity they knew they had despite Confederate soldiers forcing them to labor for an army of enslavers

Little Round Top being closed Gettysburg NMP has its advantages. Like biking the road up and down Big Round Top on the busiest day of year with zero traffic.

When I was a little kid I learned that in some towns in the South it was common for white men to walk into black people’s homes without knocking. I remember being with my grandmother at her friend’s house, and an insurance salesman just walked in as if he had rights to the place.

Battlewalk outstandingly taught by Ranger Dan Welch about Gen George Green on Culp’s Hill ⁦⁦Gettysburg NMP⁩ just ended. Made me want to learn more; that’s what great teachers do

Journal of the Civil War Era's special issue, with the theme ā€œWhat Is To Be Done? Historians of Crisis in a Time of Crisisā€ is free for the month. These essays are not your great-great grandma’s kind of history writing. Give it a read at muse.jhu.edu/issue/56406
