This tweet ironically makes me wonder what AirPod sales would have been had Apple never removed the headphone jack

Austin is building housing like crazy.

Rents are down 7%.

But rather than frame this achievement as a win for renters—or for the arg that housing prices respond to supply growth—WSJ frames it pretty clearly as bad news across the board.

If you have a certain combination of naïveté and self-delusion, you might think that superhuman AI is just around the corner.
It wasn't true in 2016.
And it's still not true today.

If you have a bit of a superiority complex, you might think that you will be the one producing…

Be an Open Source Absolutist!

It is hard to overstate how much value Open Source Software has added to the world, and how broadly empowering it is.

Operating systems, development tools, core libraries, and critical applications – a great many of the software tools used by the…

If you work in AI and you are against open source you should be barred from using any open source tools. Good luck building your models then. No Pytorch for you. No Linux. No Kubernetes. No distributed training frameworks. Nothing.

I never thought we'd be fighting the open…

This isn't very hard, Michael. If he had succeeded in throwing out the electoral ballots and accepting alternate electors, and/or convinced state AGs to throw out ballots, that would have BY DEFINITION deprived voters of their rights, by nullifying voter intentions.

The only rational move is to ignore all such pronouncements, much like you should have ignored all such pronouncements in 2021 and 2022.

News worth paying attention to is not deliberately formulated to induce strong (negative) emotional responses.

Rather than sign some letter to delay AI progress, I signed @LAION_AI petition to democratize AI research by establishing an international, publicly funded supercomputing facility equipped with 100K SOTA accelerators to train open source foundation models.

As OpenAI and others close up about publishing research details on commercial scale models, Nvidia should strive to become a haven for open oriented scale researchers. Open models “commoditizes their complements”.

for the next deadline season, i consider *requiring* my students to write the first drafts of their papers with the help of some LLM. this can potentially save so much work and frustration!

I never really understood this comparison. Obviously using a dark pattern/deceptive marketing is going to drive conversion. If it didn’t then people wouldn’t use them.

The tension is in the increased business outcome vs doing the right thing

I kinda thought it was common knowledge, and by design, all growth companies above a certain size will be “overstaffed” 2x+.

What are the folks observing this fact advocating for? Annual 25% layoffs based off performance reviews? Who would want to work at a place like that?
