Moving to a 4-day work week has been shown to:

⬆️Increase productivity
⬇️Decrease stress, burnout and sickness
⬆️Increase employee wellbeing and firm revenues

Hopefully a government pilot will inspire the private sector to test 4-day weeks.

Life expectancy in Scotland is falling and given the UK's rising inequality and general lack of social mobility, that will be a continuing trend until we accept we need to redesign the economic system!

Creating a wellbeing economy means enhancing wellbeing at all levels. That is why we champion the of £235 per week for every pensioner.

People in retirement should be able to live with dignity. It's as simple as that.

We return to the woods with a slight uptick in inflation for December.

This rise being driven mostly by increased alcohol and tobacco prices, leaves core inflation flat and ends the discussion around rates cuts in the near term.

Whisky is an industry we sometimes take for granted in Scotland but this report shows just how important it is to our country, economy and national story.

🔵77% of our food & drink exports
🔵26% of UK food & drink exports
🔵2% of total UK goods exports

Something to be proud of.

Scotland needs land reform. The value of land is a function of its location and scarcity, neither is determined by improvements made by the owner. The current system rewards landowners for sitting on unimproved land.

If we are serious about land reform, this must change.

Excellent paper from National Institute of Economic and Social Research showing that the negative effects of Brexit on the UK economy are set to worsen, rather than improve over time.

By 2035, UK real GDP is estimated to be 5-6% lower than in a non-Brexit scenario, due to increased trading costs and lower productivity

CPI inflation has slowed to 3.9%, however core inflation (that is CPI excluding volatile items such as energy and food) remains stubbornly high at 5.1%.

It is clear that the UK economy isn't out of the woods yet.

🚨NEW: The government's levelling-up project has failed.

Our analysis shows how families across the country have gotten poorer since 2015 - with people in the North East hit the hardest.
