Migration is good for our economy and public services. We are proud to welcome people from around the world who make Scotland their home. Following UK Government proposals to reduce migration, Equalities Minister Kaukab Stewart MSP called for consideration of Scotland’s needs.

We are mitigating the impacts of the bedroom tax and the benefit cap for around 94,000 households, with £89.3 million investment in Discretionary Housing Payments in 2024-25. Social Justice Secretary Shirley-Anne Somerville has also called on the UK government to end its welfare cuts.


Empty homes are an unacceptable waste. Scottish Government is making £570,000 available to councils and third sector organisations to support innovative projects tackling privately owned empty homes. This is part of a £2 million investment through the Scottish Empty Homes Partnership.


Public Finance Minister Ivan McKee MSP updated Scottish Parliament on continued work across the public sector in addressing concerns about Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (RAAC) in buildings and how it can be managed.

Housing Minister Paul McLennan - MSP for East Lothian visited two neighbouring Glasgow homes brought into use as social housing. One already had a family moved in whilst the other was previously empty and under renovation after Glasgow City Council acquired it through a Compulsory Purchase Order.
