There aren't many distilleries from Belgium and it should come as no surprise they seem to have a firm connection to beer. The Gouden Carolous grew out of Brouwerij Het Anker and this single malt uses its Tripel as a mash. Finished in ex-beer casks.

.NikkaWhiskyUSA Whisky from the Barrel, while not called Japanese whisky according to new labeling standards, is still made from a blend of 100 different batches of malt and grain whiskies, held in a distinctive bottle. We were not deterred!

Started in 2015, Cowboy Country offers a wide array of spirits and liqueurs. The Gold Spur is a corn whiskey (with oats and millet) aged in oak casks. While we had a hard time teasing out many flavor elements, the ones we found were phenomenal.

The isle of Jura is a very small place but one of the big things it has going for it is Jura Whisky. The core line up was retired and then relaunched in 2018, and this 10 year is the cornerstone of that. Finished in ex-sherry casks.

The Green Spot has upped its game over the years by partnering with wineries to finish their expressions in. This whiskey from Mitchell & Son was aged 5-7 years and is finished in ex-Burgundy barriques from Chateau Léoville Barton for 18 months.

This one pulled the rug out from under us a bit. With a name like Scorch and a dragon on the box, we were expecting monster peat and smoke. Instead, Ardbeg gave us balance and restraint. And a little peat. 😀
