If you haven't already, I recommend listening. This, from Stefan, was very good and underrated. Part of the challenge for the UK to do better is a deep cultural one on the foreign policy side: can we decentralize foreign policy more (not totally; more)? It runs against FCO DNA.

Govt “should return to the system that prevailed for 50 years up to 2010, where the bulk of the aid budget is managed by a single department, rather than being sprayed across Whitehall.” ⁦Mark Lowcock⁩ + ⁦Ranil Dissanayake⁩ raise alarm on ODA theguardian.com/uk-news/2024/s…

The current state of British aid spending is utterly scandalous. A decimation of bilateral aid for the poorest countries in the world replaced by spending in the UK with "a dangerous lack of oversight" amp.theguardian.com/uk-news/2024/s…

One side effect of my son watching old British tv shows from the 1970s: he just refused to tell me about his day, announcing “I’m on strike now.” 😂😂😂
